Alexander married Bethia HENDERSON, daughter of John HENDERSON 5th of Fordell and Margaret MENTEITH.¹ (Bethia HENDERSON was born about 1648, died in 1685 ⁴ and was buried on 28 March 1685 ⁴.)

"Alexander Hamilton, 2nd of Dalzell was the son of James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell and Jean Henderson. He married Bethia Henderson, daughter of Sir John Henderson, 5th of Fordell and Margaret Menteith. He died in January 1691.

He was Commissioner to raise three regiments of Lanarkshire militia in 1668. In 1668 Dalzell was assigned him and confirmed in 1672 by his half-brother Robert Hamilton of Monkland."
