User ID: P693. General Notes: "(2) James of Boggs, who acquired the property of Dalzell in 1647, and from whom the Barons Hamilton of Dalzell are descended. Died 1668." (page 407) James married Beatrice FLEMING.1 (Beatrice FLEMING was born about 1602 and died after 1629 1.) Marriage Notes: "James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell was the son of John Hamilton, 4th of Orbiston and Christian Dalzell. He married, firstly, Beatrice Fleming." James next married Jean HENDERSON, daughter of Sir John HENDERSON 4th of Fordell and Anna HALKETT, about 1643.1 2 (Jean HENDERSON was born about 1615 and died in July 1653 2.) Marriage Notes: "James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell [....] married, secondly, Jean Henderson, daughter of Sir John Henderson, 4th of Fordell and Anna Halkett, circa 1643[....] He prospered by trade, in particular army contracts during Cromwellian wars. He held the office of Burgess of Glasgow in 1632. In 1647 granted territorial Barony of Dalzell, resigned by the Earl and Countess of Carnwath. He was Commissioner of Supply for Lanarkshire in 1655." James next married Isobel HAMILTON, daughter of Sir James HAMILTON 5th of Broomhill, 1st Baronet and Margaret HAMILTON.1 (Isobel HAMILTON was born about 1624.) Marriage Notes: "James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell [....] married, thirdly, Isobel Hamilton, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Broomhill, 1st Bt. and Margaret Hamilton." |
