Third married William UDNY 7th of that Ilk, son of Ranald UDNY 6th of that Ilk and Isabella PANTON.1 (William UDNY 7th of that Ilk was born about 1525 and died by 15th July 1574 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Duncan Forbes) married Agnes Grey, daughter of a fellow Baillie of Aberdeen, and had ..... a third (daughter), who married the Laird of Udny"

from House of Forbes

"VII. William Uldeny of Uldeny. In 1548 his name occurs in an assize of the Lords and Barons of Aberdeenshire for making an assessment. The laird of Oudny's proportion of the tax is £10. In 1565 he granted a charter of the lands of the Mains of Oudny with the tower and fortalice thereof, mill, and mill lands to his brother, Andrew Udny of Tillery. In 1575 the said Andrew signed a bond of reversion to his nephew, William Udny.

William Udny, married a daughter of Duncan Forbes of Monymusk, and had issue, three sons : -

I. William, his successor.

II. Robert, of Crabadona.

III. Hercules."

from The Thanage of Fermartyn

Note:

There are issues of chronology that arise if this wife of William Udny was the third daughter of Duncan Forbes and his wife Agnes Gray, and not Duncan's sister. For example her older sister, Elizabeth or Elspeth, is said to have had four sons after her marriage between 1595 and 1597 to Alexander Strachan of Glenkindie, which would make her rather an old mother if she were born after 1550. The later Elspeth is held to have been born the younger her sister would be to have had a child who inherited from his father in 1574.
