"Robert (Seton), seventh Lord Seton and second Earl of Winton is said to have been born in 1583. He succeeded his father 22 March 1603. On the first day of the previous month he had gone through the ceremony of marriage (contract 29 and 31 January 1603) with Anna Maitland, daughter of John, first Lord Thirlestane, Chancellor of Scotland; but, according to a contemporary account, he showed symptoms of mental aberration on his wedding night, was separated from his bride, and was thereafter kept in restraint at Seton Palace till he died. The lady sued for divorce on the ground of his impotency."
