"1623. Aug. 20. Complaint by the King's Advocate against John Forbes of Pitsligo, George Gordoun, fiar of Geicht, Robert Innes of Balvennie, Alexander Bannerman of Elsick, Alexander Annand of Auchterellon, George Gordoun of Newtoun, Johne Leith, apparent of Harthill, and Johne Burnet of Campbell, who since 1617 had worn hagbuts and pistolets and shot at wild fowl and deer in contravention of the laws. The pursuer appeared personally, with all the defenders (except George Gordoun, fiar of Gight, who is therefore ordained to be denounced rebel) (Privy Council Register."

Alexander married Margaret CHEYNE, daughter of Patrick CHEYNE 8th of Esslemont and Christian HEPBURN 'of Smeaton'.1 2 (Margaret CHEYNE was born about 1570.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander Annand of Auchterellon was made a bailie of the Barony of Urie, 25 August 1624. The entry in The Barony Court of Urie. reads 'The said day Alexander Annand, elder of Ochterallane, was constitut, creat, and ordeanit bailzie of the barrouny of Wry, who gie his ayth de fidelj administratione ay and quhill he be dischargit'. A footnote followed 'Alexander Annand succeeded his father in the lands of Auchterellon, in Aberdeenshire, in July 1601. He married Margaret, daughter of Cheyne of Esslemont (Pratt's Buchan, p. 264). Annand evidently resided in Wrie at this period, as he is subsequently designed 'Alexander Annand, Elder, in Finlawstoun', see p. 59, infra.7[7[S529] Rev. Douglas Gordon Barron M.A.Court Book, Barony of Urie, 1604-1747 Pages 54-55.]"

"Over the panel, on the west, are carved the Annand and Cheyne arms, with the initials A. A : M.C. ; and motto, mors christi vita nostra. The panel bears the following renewed inscription: -

Sub hoc quoque tumulo resurrectionem expectant corpora Alexandri Annand de Ochterellon, filiae dicti Alexandri, qui obiit .... , et carae suae conjugis, Margaretae Cheyne, filiae do de Esselmont, quae obiit ....

[In this tomb also await the resurrection, the bodies of Alexander Annand of Ochterellon, son of the said Alexander, who died .... , and of his beloved wife Margaret Cheyne, daughter of the laird of Esslemont, who died ..."
