"On 7 March 1593/4 he (Robert Maitland) was included in the remainder of a charter for the lands of Lethington in favour of John Maitland, Lord Thirlestane⁵[⁵ C2/39/161], and acquired the lands of Cairnfechil', Auchinleck, with the mill of Fechill and Pitrichie, in the barony of Tarves, which were confirmed to him by a charter under the Great Seal on 15 November 1595⁶[⁶ C2/41/29]."
