Elizabeth married Walter URQUHART of Cromarty, son of Alexander URQUHART of Cromarty and Beatrix INNES, 31 August 1579 (contract).1 2 (Walter URQUHART of Cromarty was born in 1535 and died in November 1586 3.) Marriage Notes: "Another of his (Hugh Rose's) daughters, named Elizabeth, contracted to Walter Urquhart of Cromartie, upon the last of August 1579. The tocher 2000 merks. After the decease of the said Walter Urquhart of Cromertie, this Elizabeth was maried to the Laird of Foulis ; and after his decease, to Cuming of Ironside ; and thereafter, to Wiliam Gordone of Carnbarrow, (therafter Rothimay ;) by all which husbands, there is none descended of her but Monroe of Inveran and Achness, by a daughter, though she had sons both to Cromertie and Foulis." (page 73) Elizabeth next married Robert MUNRO 16th Baron of Foulis, son of Robert 'Mor' MUNRO 15th Baron of Foulis and Margaret OGILVY, in 1587.3 (Robert MUNRO 16th Baron of Foulis was born about 1552 and died in July 1589 3.) Marriage Notes: "In 1587 he (Robert Munro) married, thirdly, Elizabeth, sixth daughter of Hugh Rose, X. of Kilravock (by his wife, Catherine, daughter of David Falconer of Halkerton), and widow of Walter Urquhart of Cromarty, to whom she was 'contracted' on the 31st of August, 1579, with a 'tocher of 2000 merks.' The contract with Urquhart also states that she is to be infeft in the liferent of the lands of Little Suddie ; the Sub-Chanter's croft within the Chanonry of Ross ; Wester Balblair ; Balakervie ; Kinbreachie ; nineteen roods of a field lying within the burgage of Rosemarkie ; and the wester oxgang of Little Rhynie, within the Abbey of Fearn. She was Walter Urquhart's second wife, and at his death, in November, 1586, there was no surviving issue. By Munro she had one child, a daughter Margaret, who married Robert Munro, III. of Assynt in Ross, with issue." Elizabeth next married John CUMMING of Earnside, son of Thomas CUMMING of Earnside and Margaret GRANT, after July 1589.3 (John CUMMING of Earnside was born about 1522 and died after 24 October 1596 6.) Marriage Notes: "Robert (Munro) died in July, 1589, and shortly afterwards his widow married as her third husband John Cumming of Ernside, a cadet of the family of Altyre, in Morayshire, descended from John, third son of Sir William Cumming of Altyre." Elizabeth next married William GORDON of Rothiemay and Stock of Cairnborrow, son of John GORDON of Cairnborrow and Edenglassie and Elizabeth BANNERMAN, by 20 August 1598.1 (William GORDON of Rothiemay and Stock of Cairnborrow was born about 1575 and died on 2 January 1630 4.). The cause of his death was killing by lairds Crichton of Frendraught and Ogilvy of Banff and their entourage. Marriage Notes: "His (John Gordon's) Eldest Son William Gordon Laird of Rothemey and Representative of Cairnborrow married first the Barron of Killravock's daughter Ross Lady Foules who had no succession" |
