"Alexander Auchinleck, was appointed tutor to his great-nephew, James Auchinleck, son of his nephew, Mr John, and is named as such during proceedings brought before the Lords of Council in 1501 to determine the rights to the lands of Auchinleck.1[1 Acta Dom Conc] It is probable that he is identical to the unnamed uncle of Mr John Auchinleck who is styled great-great-grandfather to George Auchinleck, 2nd Balmanno, at the retour of that George as heir to Mr John Auchinleck, 'brother of his great-great-grandfather' on 23 June 1630."
