User ID: H530. Patrick married Agnes.1 (Agnes was born about 1323.) Marriage Notes: "Sir Patrick Hepburne of Hailes, Knight, the eldest son, was born circa 1321 .... At the battle of Otterburne on 19 August 1388 he and his son Patrick gallantly saved the banner of Douglas from falling into the hands of the English .... Sir Patrick was alive on 22 June 1402, being then over eighty years of age. He married, first, Agnes .... By his first wife he was father of Patrick Hepburne younger of Hailes" Patrick next married Eleonora DOUGLAS, daughter of Sir Archibald DOUGLAS Regent of Scotland and Beatrice LINDSAY, 15 April 1376(dispensation).1 2 (Eleonora DOUGLAS was born about 1319.) Marriage Notes: "He (Patrick Hepburn) married .... secondly, Eleanor Bruce, Countess of Carrick, only daughter of Sir Archibald Douglas (brother of the good Sir James Douglas), who was for a few months guardian of the kingdom .... A dispensation dated at Avignon 15 Kal. Aprilis 1376 was granted by Pope Gregory XI., permitting 'the noble man Patrick de Hepborn, Knight, and Eleonora de Bruys, Comitissa de Carrick,' to marry, notwithstanding that Agnes, his former wife, was within the fourth degree of consanguinity to the Countess.' She must have been far advanced in life when she was married to Sir Patrick, who seems to have been her fifth husband. He died before King Robert III." |
