Anna married David WEMYSS 4th Earl of Wemyss, son of Sir James WEMYSS Lord Burntisland and Margaret WEMYSS Countess of Wemyss, suo jure, 13 August 1697(contract).1 (David WEMYSS 4th Earl of Wemyss was baptised on 29 April 1678 1 and died on 15 March 1720 in Wemyss, Fife, Scotland 1.). The cause of his death was brief illness.1 Marriage Notes: "He (David Wemyss) married, first (contract 13 August 1697), Anna Douglas, only daughter of William, first Duke of Queensberry, with a dowry of 100,000 merks. It was through this marriage that Francis, sixth Earl of Wemyss, succeeded in 1810 to the estates of Neidpath and others in Peeblesshire .... Lady Elcho met a tragic fate only two years after her marriage. On 13 February 1700 her clothes caught fire, and she sustained such injuries that she died ten days later." |
