James married Mary HAMILTON, daughter of James HAMILTON 2nd Marquess of Hamilton, Earl of Cambridge and Anne CUNNINGHAM, 4 June 1630(contract).1 (Mary HAMILTON was born about 1614 and died on 29 October 1633 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"He (James Douglas) married, first (contract dated 4 June 1630), as Master of Drumlanrig, Mary Hamilton, daughter of the second, and sister of the third, Marquess of Hamilton. She died, without issue, 29 October 1633."

James next married Margaret STEWART, daughter of Sir John STEWART Lord Stewart, then Earl of Traquair and Katherine CARNEGIE, after 29 October 1633.1 (Margaret STEWART was born about 1621 and died about 20 March 1673 1.)

"He (James Douglas) married .... secondly, Margaret Stewart, eldest daughter of John, first Earl of Traquair. She survived him, dying on or soon after 20 March 1673, when she made her will at Sanquhar Castle. By her the Earl had issue"
