Margaret married Sir James WEMYSS Lord Burntisland, son of Colonel James WEMYSS Master of Ordnance to King Charles II and Unknown, 25 December 1671(contract) 28 March 1672(marriage).1 2 (Sir James WEMYSS Lord Burntisland was born about 1640 and died in December 1682 2.) Marriage Notes: "Lady Margaret Wemyss was born on 1st January 1659. She had but reached her thirteenth year, when her father, whose hopes of male succession had been finally blasted by the death of the last of his ten sons, and whose estates had fallen into financial embarrassment, received an offer from a kinsman for her hand in marriage, on terms which promised at once the preservation of the line, and the extrication of the family possessions. It was accepted, and the terms of the marriage contract were arranged at Wemyss in December 1671 .... Margaret next married Sir George McKENZIE Viscount Tarbat, then Earl of Cromartie on 29 April 1700.2 (Sir George McKENZIE Viscount Tarbat, then Earl of Cromartie was born about 1630.) Marriage Notes: "On 29 April 1700 she (Margaret Wemyss) married, secondly, Sir George M'Kenzie, Viscount Tarbat, afterwards Earl of Cromartie, but had no issue by him" |
