Margaret married Alexander LESLIE Lord Balgonie, son of General Sir Alexander LESLIE Earl of Leven and Agnes RENTON 'of Billy'.1 (Alexander LESLIE Lord Balgonie was born about 1611 and died 1643 (dvp) 3.)

"Lady Margaret, married, first, to Alexander Leslie, Lord Balgony. John, Earl of Rothes, in behalf of his daughter, Lady Margaret Leslie, executed a marriage contract with Sir Alexander Leslie of Balgony, General of the Swedish army in Westphalia, and Dame Agnes Renton his spouse, in behalf of Colonel Alexander Leslie, their eldest son, whereby the said Sir Alexander Leslie bound himself to iiifeft Lady Margaret Leslie in certain lands in liferent, and obliged himself not to redeem certain lands from his son, and not to sell his other lands, or burden them, except with the sum of 100,300 merks, of which 72,000 merks should be provided for his daughters, Christian, Janet, Agnes, and Mary, and should any of them die, their portions were to fall to the others ; and if any of them should be foris familiae during their father's lifetime, their infeftment should be void ; and the Earl of Rothes bound himself to pay as the tocher of Lady Margaret Leslie the sum of 6000 merks at Whitsunday 1637, and 4000 merks at Whitsunday 1638. Sir Alexander Leslie of Balgony, Field-marshal to the Queen of Sweden, and Dame Agnes Renton his spouse, granted a discharge to John, Earl of Rothes, for the above 10,000 merks, 16th June 1638."

Margaret next married David WEMYSS 2nd Earl of Wemyss, son of Sir John WEMYSS of that Ilk, Earl of Wemyss, Lord Elcho and Methil and Jean GRAY, on 13 January 1653 in Old Newton Kirk, Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland.1 2 (David WEMYSS 2nd Earl of Wemyss was born on 6 September 1610 2 and died in July 1679 in Wemyss Castle, Fife, Scotland 2.). The cause of his death was brief illness.

"The second Earl of Wemyss married .... thirdly, Margaret Leslie, second daughter of John, Earl of Rothes, widow successively of Alexander, Lord Balgonie, eldest son of the first Earl of Leven, and of Francis, second Earl of Buccleuch. The marriage to Wemyss took place on 13 January 1653 at 'Sheriffhall' or Old Newton kirk. She survived until February 1688, and was buried at East Wemyss."
