"Walter was born about 1420, second son of John Ogilvy first baron of Inverquharity.

In 1450 he and his younger brother were appointed tutors to their young nephew, Alexander, son to their eldest brother Alexander second baron of Inverquharity. [1]

On the death of his young nephew, Walter inherited the title of Inverquharity about 1455.

Walter Ogilvy of Inverquharity is mentioned with Walter Ogilvy of Beaufort, William Ochterlony and others in an assize under Robert Graham of Old Montrose in a perambulation of the marches of Ochterlony and Forfar on 6 February 1457/8. [2]"
