Marriage Notes: "He (John Maxwell) married at Dalkeith, 17 February (contract 13 January) 1571-72, Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of David, seventh Earl of Angus. She was afterwards married to Alexander Stewart of Garlies, and to John Wallace, elder of Craigie (contract 31 October 1597 ). She was called Countess of Nithsdale after the change in the style of the Maxwell earldom."
