Alexander married Christian DOUGLAS, daughter of Sir James DOUGLAS 7th of Drumlanrig and Christian MONTGOMERIE, 21 April 1574(contract).1 2 (Christian DOUGLAS was born about 1550.)

Christian was the daughter of Sir James, not Sir William, Douglas of Drumlanrig, and by his second marriage.




"Christian, married (contract dated 21 April 1574) to Alexander Stewart, younger of Garlies, who is also named in her father's will already cited. She received £100, while her husband had 200 merks."

Alexander next married Elizabeth DOUGLAS, daughter of David DOUGLAS of Cockburnspath, 7th Earl of Angus and Margaret HAMILTON, after 7 December 1593.1 3 (Elizabeth DOUGLAS was born about 1555 and died in 1637.)

"He (Alexander Stewart) married, first, before 10 October 1576, Christian, daughter of Sir William Douglas of Drumlanrig, ancestor of the Duke of Queensberry, and, secondly, Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of David, Earl of Angus, and widow of Lord Maxwell. By the latter, who married, thirdly, John Wallace, elder of Craigie, and died in 1637, he had no family, but by Dame Christian Douglas he had ..."
