Margaret married Archibald DOUGLAS 6th Earl of Angus, son of George DOUGLAS Master of Angus and Elizabeth DRUMMOND, before 9 April 1543.¹ (Archibald DOUGLAS 6th Earl of Angus was born about 1489, died on 22 January 1557 in Tantallon Castle, Scotland ² and was buried in 1557 in Abernethy, Perthshire, Scotland ².). The cause of his death was attack of erysipelas.

  Marriage Notes:

"His (Archibald Douglas's) third wife was Margaret Maxwell, daughter of Robert, Lord Maxwell, who survived him."

"By his third wife the Earl had a son James, Master of Angus, who died in February 1548, while still in infancy. Other children by the same wife also died young, and their names are not known."

Margaret next married Sir William BAILLIE of Lamington, son of Sir William BAILLIE of Lamington and Janet HAMILTON, before September 1560.^{1 2} (Sir William BAILLIE of Lamington was born sbout 1533.)

"She (Margaret Maxwell) married, secondly, before September 1560, Sir William
Baillie of Lamington, by whom she had issue, and she died in 1593."

"This Sir William Baillie married Margaret Maxwell, daughter of Robert, Lord Maxwell and his first wife Janet, daughter of Sir William Douglas of Drumlanrig. This Margaret Maxwell was widow of Archibald Earl of Angus, but had no issue
by him. Sir William Baillie of Lamington granted a Charter, with consent of Margaret Maxwell his spouse, of the Lands and Barony of Lamington, with the kirk and chapels belonging thereto, in favour of his daughter Margaret Baillie and Edward Maxwell her husband, reserving his own and his wife's liferent of the same, on 20th and 26th February, which was confirmed by the Crown 2d March 1577."
