User ID: M299. General Notes: "SIR HERBERT MAXWELL of Carlaverock was more than once in England from 1405 to 1407 as a hostage for the Earl of Douglas. The latter granted, 8 February 1409-10, to Sir Herbert Maxwell, Lord of Carlaverock, and his heirs, the office of Steward of Annandale." Herbert married Katherine STEWART, daughter of John STEWART of Dalswinton and Unknown, before 10 August 1386.1 (Katherine STEWART was born about 1369.) Marriage Notes: "He (Herbert Maxwell) married, when son and 'aire of Sir Robert of Maxwel, Lorde of Carlauerok,' before 10 August 1386, Katherine, daughter of John Stewart of Dalswinton, with whom he had the lands of Carnsalloch as security for her tocher of 400 merks...... He had issue, probably by Katherine Stewart" |
