John married Elizabeth RATTRAY 20 December 1452(charter) confirmed 1 October 1453 (Great Seal).1 (Elizabeth RATTRAY was born about 1436.)


  Marriage Notes:

"On 20 Dec. 1452 his parents Walter Halyburton, lord of Gask, and Katherine Chisholm granted to John, their son, and Elizabeth of Rattray, his spouse a charter of the lands of Pitcur in sheriffdom of Forfar, and lands of Drumblade in sheriffdom of Aberdeen.This was confirmed by a charter under the Great Seal on 1 Oct. 1453. An Instrument of Sasine following on precept from chancery was made on 14 Feb. 1453/4 in favour of John Halyburton, son and apparent heir of Walter Halyburtone of Gask, and Katherine Chishom his spouse, John's mother, and Elizabeth Rattray, his spouse, in two pieces of the lands of Pitcur and two parts of the mill there. On the death of Walter Halyburton of Kinrossie about 1455 John inherited the estates which his mother had brought to her marriage. In November 1459 he was designed John Halyburton of Gask. [7 National Records of Scotland GD40/4/69]

At Peattie on 24 Jun 1496, John Halyburton of Gask for love of his son and heir apparent granted William a large number of lands including Archless all in the barony of Aird, in the county of Inverness to be held of the King. John retained the free hold and reserved the share of the terce of Elizabeth Rattray his wife."
