Alexander next married Agnes GRAY, daughter of Thomas GRAY of Mamewlay, Provost of Aberdeen and Isobel FARQUHAR, 4 July 1673(contract).2 (Agnes GRAY was born about 1650.)

"4th July, 1672. - Mr. Richard Irvine of Cairnfield is witness to a contract of marriage between Alexander Irvine, younger of Murthill, and Agnes Gray. (MS. A.D.F.)" (page 180)

"4th July, 1672. - Contract of marriage, dated at Aberdeen, 4th July, 1672, betwixt Alexander Irvine, younger of Murthill, with consent of John Irvine of Murthill, his father, and Agnes Gray, eldest lawful daughter of the late Thomas Gray, Provost of Aberdeen, with consent of her mother, Issobel Farquhar, and Mr. Thomas Gray, regent of Marischal College, Aberdeen. - (Paper of the late Mr. Dingwall Fordyce of Culsh.)" (page 210)

Note: "Agnes" Gray does not appear in the parish register baptism list of children of Thomas Gray and Isobel Farquhar. Being described as the "eldest lawful daughter" in the above excerpt may mean simply that she was the eldest surviving daughter rather than their first born, most likey the daughter baptised Issobell in 1650.
