LUNDIE, Robert of Balgonie, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland, Sir 2Other names for Robert were LUNDIN, Robert 1 and LUNDY, Robert of Balgony.3 User ID: V817. General Notes: "Sir Robert was appointed Lord High Treasurer of Scotland in 1494 and held this position until his death in 1501. He was also chamberlain of Galloway, Strathern, Pety, Brauchly, Menteith, and Ballincreif, and had custody of Stirling Castle. Sir Robert also held the office of Sheriff of Fife, an office that was held by his father and that was to be held by his son. He was knighted around 1497. Robert married Elizabeth SIBBALD heiress of Balgonie, daughter of Sir Andrew SIBBALD of Balgonie, Sheriff of Fife and Unknown.1 2 (Elizabeth SIBBALD heiress of Balgonie was born about 1443.) Marriage Notes: "Alexander (Leslie), Earl of Leven, acquired great landed property. He bought the property of Balgonie in the parish of Markinch, on the banks of the river Leven in Fife. He much enlarged the mansion-house, and laid out new gardens, and enclosed a large park on both banks of the Leven. The property formerly belonged to the ancient family of Sibbald. Sir Andrew Sibbald of Balgonie, who died in the reign of James IV., left an only daughter, Helen, heiress of his estates. She married Robert de Lundin, a younger son of the Baron of Lundin." |
