David married Mary DOUGLAS, daughter of Archibald DOUGLAS 3rd Earl of Douglas, 'Black Archibald', 'the Grim'' and Joanna Lady of Drumsargard and Lady of Bothwell, February 1399 (1400).¹ (Mary DOUGLAS was born about 1382 and died about 1420 ^{3 4}.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (David Stewart) was affianced first to Euphemia Lindsay, sister of David, first Earl of Crawford, and then to Elizabeth of Dunbar, daughter of George, Earl of March, but in February 1399-1400 he married Marjory, daughter of Archibald, third Earl of Douglas. He died without issue on 26 March 1402 at Falkland, and was buried at Lindores. He was popularly believed to have been starved to death by his uncle, Robert, Duke of Albany."

"David Stewart, eldest son of King Robert III., was born 24 October 1378; he was probably created Earl of Carrick shortly after his father's succession to the throne, as he is styled 'Comes de Carrick' in a charter to Sir David Lindsay of Glenesk 2 January 1390-91. He was subsequently (28 April 1398) created Duke of Rothesay, and, 28 April 1398, got the earldom of Atholl by charter from his father on 6 September in that year. He married, in 1400, Mary, daughter of Archibald, third Earl of Douglas, and died without issue 26 March 1402."

"He (Archibald Douglas) was the means of breaking off the betrothal of David, Duke of Rothesay, to Elizabeth Dunbar, daughter of George, Earl of March, and he married the Duke to his own daughter Mary." (page 161)

"Mary or Marjory, married in February 1399-1400 to David, Duke of Rothesay, Prince of Scotland, without issue. He died in 1402, and about 1403 she married, secondly, Sir Walter Haliburton, younger of Dirleton, afterwards. Treasurer of Scotland. She died about 1420." (page 163)
