James Gartshore, Alexander's son who was present where his father died, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar at Kirkintilloch on 4 May 1857. ⁵

James married Elizabeth GOW, daughter of John GOW and Janet STIRLING, on 19 March 1858 in Waterside, Kirkintilloch parish, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (Elizabeth GOW was born about 1820 ².)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was solemnised according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. William Marshall was the minister. Andrew Gow and Archibald Stirling were witnesses.

James Gartshore, a bachelor living at Waterside, Kirkintilloch, was recorded as 45 years of age. He was a cotton weaver. His parents were decased.

Elizabeth Gow, aged 38 years, was also unmarried and of Waterside. No occupation was noted for her. Her mother was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Kirkintilloch on 20 March 1858. ²
