   Other names for Agnes were CRAIG, Ann,8 GARTSHORE, Agnes 1 2 4 5 6 7 and GARTSHORE, Ann.8

  General Notes:

In her death certificate of 1876 Agnes was recorded as "Agnes Gartshore Married to John Gartshore Cotton Weaver". Her age was noted as 54 years. Both her parents were deceased.

When John Gartshore died just after the census of 1881, his death certificate recorded him as a "Cotton Weaver, Widower of Agnes Craig".

When her son David died in September 1881 at Kilmarnock Infirmary, only her two surnames, and the fact that she was deceased, were recorded in his death certificate. No first name was noted. 1 2 9

JOHN and AGNES GARTSHORE

There were two married couples in Waterside in Kirkintilloch named in the censuses as John and Agnes Gartshore.
Both of the John Gartshores were cotton weavers and both were of approximately the same age.
Their death certificates distinguish them:

John Gartshore, born 1816, died 13 May 1881 in Waterside (498/ 91 Kirkintilloch) at the recorded age of 60 years, a cotton weaver, was the son of Alexander Gartshore and Janet Stirling. He was married to Agnes Craig.
Agnes Craig, born 1817, died, recorded age 54 years, on 3 February 1876 in Waterside (498/ 28 Kirkintilloch), was the daughter of William Craig and Margaret Stirling.

John Gartshore, born 1816, died 24 April 1895 in Waterside (498/ 127 Kirkintilloch) at the recorded age of 79 years, a cotton weaver, was the son of James Gartshore and Agnes Fergus. He was married to Agnes Stirling.
Agnes Stirling, born 1815, died, recorded age 57 years, on 4 November 1874 in Waterside (498/ 214 Kirkintilloch), was the daughter of William Stirling and Catherine Aitken.

  Medical Notes:

John Gartshore, widower who was present where his wife's death occurred, gave notice of her death before the registrar at Kirkintilloch on 4 February 1876. 2


Agnes married John GAITSHORE (DNA Link), son of Alexander GARTSHORE (DNA Link) and Janet STIRLING. (John GAITSHORE (DNA Link) was born on 14 December 1816 in Kirkintilloch parish, Dunbartonshire, Scotland 3 5 6 7 10 11 and died on 13 May 1881 in Waterside, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland 1.). The cause of his death was general debility.2
