"...his (Robert Byres) widow, Jean Sandilands (and her late husband's trustees), bought in 1718 for their son, Patrick Byres, the lands and barony of 'bonnie' Tonley, which have since continued to be the home of the head of the house."

"Byres, Patrick (or Peter), of Tonley
Second and only surviving son of Robert Byres and his wife Jean Sandilands, daughter of Patrick Sandilands of Aberdeen, born 13 May 1713. About the time of his birth, his father was accidentally drowned in Dublin Bay, and the widow soon after returned with her children to Aberdeenshire, where in 1718 she bought Tonley. Married in 1733, Janet, daughter of James Moir, 3rd of Stoneywood and his second wife, Jean Abernethy of Mayen. They had four sons and three daughters. Lurking after Rising, he died at Tonley, 3 Sept 1817, in his 84th year."
