  General Notes:

In the 1841 census for Airdrie, Lanarkshire, John and Jean Gartshore and their seven children were living at Hallcraig or Baillie's Lane. Alexander Donaldson, aged in 60-64 years age group, was also living in the household. John Gartshore was a policeman by occupation and his age was recorded as in 45-49 years group.

John Gartshore, a weaver, aged 57 years, is recorded as a widower in the 1851 census. He lived at Bailie's Lane in New Monkland parish with Jane, aged 27 years, and Janet, aged 20 years, his daughters, and William, aged 13 years, and James aged 5 years, his sons. All were recorded as born in Airdrie.

When John Gartshore died in 1861 his death certificate recorded him as a "Pitheadman Widower of Jean Donaldson", and aged 69 years. Both of his parents were deceased.

John Gartshore was a colliery pitheadman according to the marriage certificates of his sons in 1858 and 1870. 2 4 5 8 9 10
