When Susan Innes Gartshore nee Meek died in 1898 her death certificate recorded her as aged 73 years and "Widow of George Gartshore Coal Miner". ³

George married Susanna MEEK, daughter of George MEEK and Jeanie NEWBIGIN, in June 1844 in New Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Susanna MEEK was born about 1825 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland ³ and died on 14 November 1898 in 67 Chapel Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland ³.). The cause of her death was apoplexy.
