"James Grant in Dalrachnie, who, as such, subscribes a petition for himself and Whitraw's relict, regarding the settlement of the church of Duthil in 1778. He is the only son mentioned in a settlement made in 1771 between Sir James Grant of Grant and Dalrachnie's trustees, when the wadsets held by the late Dalrachnie were redeemed, their value then being 26,750 merks, or £1486 sterling. James Grant appears to have obtained a further lease of the farm. . He married a daughter of Grant of Lurg, and had issue a son and two daughters."
