GRANT, Alexander of Dalrachnie, Collector of cess 1
General Notes: "Alexander Grant of Dalrachnie, who succeeded. He is mentioned in 1728 as Younger of Dalrachnie. In 1738 he was a cautioner in the testament of James Grant of Curr, and in 1739 his "fine new house" was burned down. He was appointed collector of cess in 1742, and again in 1746. He built the mansion-house of Inverlaidnan, in which Prince Charles Edward slept on 22d February 1746 on his way to Culloden. In 1751 Alexander Grant was one of the curators of William Grant of Ballindalloch. He married Helen Grant, who survived him. He died in December 1765." 1 Alexander married Helen GRANT. (Helen GRANT was born about 1710 and died after December 1765.) |
