I have been using to do further searches on my Grant ancestors in Scotland. My Canadian gateway ancestor was Cuthbert Grant Sr. (d. 1799) partner of the Northwest Fur Company. All Canadian historical sources state he had a brother Robert who retired from the fur trade earlier that decade and returned to Scotland.

I have found a large Monument for Robert Grant of Kincorth (the estate he purchased upon his return from Canada), in the Cromdale church yard; which names his parents, David and Margaret Grant of Lethendry, his wife Ann Grant, daughter of the Rev. Lewis Grant of Cromdale (who wrote the account for Cromdale Parrish in the 1st Statistical account of Scotland (1799), and his twin sons, Robert and Lewis Grant. The monument states that Robert Grant was one of the Founding members of the Northwest Fur Company; so there can be little doubt that this is a collateral line of mine.

The only will of this family that I have been able to locate is that of Lewis Grant, a wealthy merchant from Bombay, written at Kincorth, Morayshire, and proved in 1854. Lewis was survived by his brother Robert Grant of Kincorth, Advocate, and his mother Anne Grant, and numerous cousins. Lewis gave to his mother 2,000 pounds up front, and 400 pounds per annum for life." 1
