Research Notes:
MARGARET'S PARENTS
A Genealogical and Heraldric History of the Landed Gentry of Great Britain & Ireland states that Margaret Grant's parents were Robert Grant and Jobina Grant and that Margaret was their eldest daughter.
According to the parish registers, that Robert Grant married his wife, Jobina in October 1723 in Aberlour parish. Their children's baptisms in the Cromdale parish registers were :
GRANT CATHARINE ROBT. GRANT JOBINA F 24/12/1724 128 / B 10 / 109 Cromdale and Inverallan
GRANT ISABEL ROBERT GRANT JOBINA F 08/01/1728 128 / B 10 / 125 Cromdale and Inverallan
GRANT JEAN ROBERT GRANT JOBINA GRANT F 15/11/1730 128 / B 20 / 10 Cromdale and Inverallan

GRANT ALEXANDER ROBT. GRANT OR GRT. JOBINA GRT. M 10/09/1744 128 / B 20 / 65 CCromdale and Inverallan
This account contradicts the account by William Grant of Carron, a descendant, who says that Margaret, his great grandmother was "third daughter of Robert Grant of Wester Lethendry" and that his great grandparents were married in 1749.
This latter information has been used on this website, given that Robert and Jobina's eldest daughter was named Catherine, not Margaret, and that there is no baptism account on the register of them having a daughter named Margaret. 2
Margaret married David GRANT in Lethendry, son of Donald GRANT of Easter Lethendry and Henrietta CUTHBERT, in 1749.1 (David GRANT in Lethendry was baptised on 22 September 1715 in Cromdale and Inverallan parish, Inverness-shire, Scotland and was buried in Cromdale Churchyard, Moray, Scotland.)

" I cannot resist the temptation of quoting from a letter of Miss Evelyn Grant:
'Robert Grant of the North West Company was my grandfather…. I have a copy of the marriage certificate of his parents, who were David Grant, only son of Donald Grant of Easter Lethendry, and Margaret, third daughter of Robert Grant of Wester Lethendry - they were married in 1749. These two Lethendrys are about a mile apart just above the village of Cromdale in Strathspey' "
