GORDON, William 5th of Park, 3rd Baronet, Jacobite 1745, Sir 1 2 3User ID: C845. William married Janet DUFF, daughter of William DUFF Baron Braco of Kilbryde, 1st Earl Fife and Jean GRANT, in June 1745.1 2 (Janet DUFF was born about 1727 1 and died on 3 March 1758 in Carnousie, Forglen, Banffshire, Scotland 1.) Marriage Notes: "Janet (Duff) married at eighteen, in 1745, Sir William Gordon of Park, who had already identified himself with the Jacobite cause. He was described by an official of the Commissioners of Excise as 'A rebel Collonel, and very actif in distressing the country by levying money, using very violent measures.' Her father alludes to ' the young Knight of Park,' in connection with some fishing disputc in 1733, so he was considerably his wife's senior. She is said to have eloped with him from Rothiemay, leaping from a window for the Purpose...." |
