William married Janet DUFF, daughter of William DUFF Baron Braco of Kilbryde, 1st Earl Fife and Jean GRANT, in June 1745.1 2 (Janet DUFF was born about 1727 1 and died on 3 March 1758 in Carnousie, Forglen, Banffshire, Scotland 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Janet (Duff) married at eighteen, in 1745, Sir William Gordon of Park, who had already identified himself with the Jacobite cause. He was described by an official of the Commissioners of Excise as 'A rebel Collonel, and very actif in distressing the country by levying money, using very violent measures.' Her father alludes to ' the young Knight of Park,' in connection with some fishing disputc in 1733, so he was considerably his wife's senior. She is said to have eloped with him from Rothiemay, leaping from a window for the Purpose...."

"Gordon, Sir William, of Park

Eldest son of Sir James Gordon of Park and his wife, Helen Fraser, born in 1712.He married in June 1745 Janet Duff second daughter of Lord Braco. It is said she eloped with him from Rothiemay leaping from a window. She was 15 years younger than he, being only 18. He escaped abroad after Culloden and his wife followed him to France.He had a daughter and a son, John James, born 26 March 1749, and William, born 1750. He died of a fever in Douai on 5 June 1751. His widow returned to Scotland and married George Hay of Mountblairy. She died in 1758."
