  General Notes:

"John, Master of Forbes, who obtained a remission for the slaughter of Alexander Seton of Meldrum 10 October 1530. He was accused of high treason by George, Earl of Huntly, 12 June 1536, was imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle, and tried before the Court of Justiciary 14 July 1537. It is said that his fate was brought about by the agency and influence of the Earl of Huntly. Though he protested his innocence, he was found guilty on all the counts, and was sentenced to be executed, and to forfeit his lands and goods. He died on the scaffold 17 July 1537, by the axe, as a favour, in place of being hanged, as was first ordered."

John married Elizabeth LYON of Glamis, daughter of John LYON 6th Lord Glamis and Janet DOUGLAS, about 27 June 1535.1 (Elizabeth LYON of Glamis was born about 1520 and died before 24 September 1509 2.)
