Eldest son of James Gordon 1st of Seaton, Commissary Clerk, and Marjorie, daughter of Robert Forbes of Rubislaw. Married Elizabeth, only daughter of Richard Irvine of Cairnfield and had two sons, Richard and Alexander and three daughters. Buried on 28 September 1741."

This source does not name the mother of Elizabeth Irvine. It has been assumed that her mother was Margaret Oliphant, the first wife of Richard Irvine as the dates do not allow Elizabeth to be the child of Richard's second marriage in 1781, though she may have been born outside marriage. ¹
