  General Notes:

James Quigley was recorded by the 1841 census living in Wright Street, Liverpool, England with his father and siblings. He was recorded as 10 years old and had been born in Scotland.

The 1851 census recorded James Tweedle living at 88 1/2 Burlington Street, Liverpool, England. He was a 21 year old single man, born in Scotland, who worked as a joiner.

The family were listed in the 1861 census under the surname Tweedley, living at 49 Skirving Street in Liverpool, England. James and Jane had four children, William being the youngest aged 2 months.

The 1871 census for Kirkdale, Liverpool, in Lancashire, recorded James Tweedley, a 'Foreman Shipwright', as head of a household living at 63 Salop Street. He was recorded as 40 years old and had been born in Castle Douglas in Scotland. His wife Jane was 39 Years old and had been born in Newton Stewart in Scotland. Their four daughters and three sons living with them were between the ages of 2 years and 16 years and all had been born in Liverpool. Jane's father, William Johnston, also lived with the family.

The 1881 census recorded James living in Liverpool with his wife, his children and his elderly father-in-law. He was aged 49 years and was house joiner. He lived at 40 Lancaster Street, Walton on Hill, Lancashire, England. His place of birth is noted only as Scotland.

The 1891 census for Walton on the Hill, Liverpool, Lancashire, recorded James Tweedley living as the head of a household at 40 Lancaster Street with his wife Jane and three of their children, Jane, Catherine, and John Henry. At number 42, live his son James Tweedley, a plumber, and Margaret his daughter. The town where James senior was born is noted as Gatehouse, Scotland, and that town is also noted for his wife Jane's place of birth. His age was recorded as 59 years and his trade as shipwright, at which he was still employed.

In 1901 James and Jane Tweedley were living with their daughter Jane and their sons James and John Henry at 14 Stalmine Road, Walton on the Hill, Liverpool, according to that year's census. James was a retired shipwright, aged 70 years and born in Scotland. 2 7 8 9 10 11 12

James married Jane JOHNSTON, daughter of William JOHNSTON Millwright and Unknown, on 12 February 1853 in All Saints Parish Church, Liverpool, England.1 (Jane JOHNSTON was born about 1833 in Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, Scotland and died in 1920 in Liverpool, England 6.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was solemnised after banns according to the rites and forms of the Established Church of England by John Woodhouse, curate. The witnesses were John Tweedley and Agness Johnston.

James Tweedley was a bachelor, of 22 years of age, and was a joiner by trade. He resided 30 Chaucer Street, Liverpool.

Jane Johnston lived at 30 Chaucer Street, Liverpool, too. She was a single woman and 21 years of age.

Both bride and groom signed their names.
