GORDON, Patrick of Auchleuchries, Officer of Russian Army, General
General Notes: 'He (John Gordon 5th Laird of Nethermuir) was a close friend and confident of his "cousin," the famous General Patrick Gordon of Auchleuchries, whom he met at Auchleuchries June 28, 1686 ("Diary of Patrick Gordon," 146): and at Aberdeen, July 13, 1686 (Ibid. 149). The General wrote to him from Moscow, Dec. 12, 1691 ("Tagebuch des General Patrick Gordon," iii., 295), on Sept. 26, 1692 (iii., 323), and from Archangel, June 2, 1604 (iii., 349). On January 11, 1692, the General grave John Gordon of Nethermuir, "my cousin," Patrick Gordon, of Cults, and James Gordon of Westerton, "my uncle," power of attorney in regard to his estate of Auchleuchries, and to Nethermuir and Cults, a factory, dated Januarv 12, 1694 ("Diary," 178, 181).' Research Notes: AUCHLEUCHRIES Noted events in his life were: 1. Emigration, June 1651, Aberdeen To Danzig. 1 2. Settled in, 1661, Russia. 1 3. Burgess: admitted, 1670, of Aberdeen. 1 4. In service: of Empress, 1680, Russia. 1 Patrick married Katherine VAN BOCKHOVEN in January 1665. (Katherine VAN BOCKHOVEN was born about 1640 in Russia and died before 10 October 1682.) Patrick next married Elizabeth BARNOE before 1686. (Elizabeth BARNOE was born about 1650.) |
