Mary McGuire held her surname, McGuire, by birth and by marriage.

The 1881 census for the civil parish of Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire, recorded Mary McGuire living at 6 Russell Street, Johnstone. She was recorded as 45 years of age and had been born in Ireland. She had seven children to care for, ranging in age from 5 years to 21 years. Only the youngest child, Mary, had been born in Scotland.

Mary married Owen McGUIRE in October 1856 in Ireland. (Owen McGUIRE was born in 1830-1837 in Ireland ¹ and died 30 March 1902 at 3.05 am in 79 Mcalpine's Land, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹.). The cause of his death was cardiac valvular disease over 10 days and oedema of the lungs ove 4 days.
