In the death certificate of his son, Lawrence, in 1935, Lawrence McGuire senior was recorded as a coal miner.

When Lawrence McGuire died in 1958, his death certificate recorded him as a retired coal miner who was the widower of Catherine Lindsay. His usual residence was 29 Charles Street, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
