The 1881 census for Cleland, in the western district of Shotts parish, recorded Mary Curran living with her husband and family at 4 Omoa Square. She had four children of 8 years and under to care for. She had been born in Airdrie, and was recorded as 36 years of age.

Mary married Thomas CURRAN on 12 February 1872 in RC Chapel, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Thomas CURRAN was born about 1846 in Ireland 1 3 and died in 1890 in Shotts parish (Western district), Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father James Gilmour RCC in Wishaw. The witnesses were Edward Rourke, who made his X mark, and Mary Martin.

Thomas Curran was a single man, aged 25 years. He was 'of Cleland' in the parish of Shotts. He worked as coal miner. Both of his parents, Thomas Curran, a labourer, and Jane Fox, were deceased.

Mary Lamont, who made her X mark, was also single, and was aged 26 years. She worked as a housekeeper. Her address was the same as that of Thomas Curran. Her parents were Daniel Lamont, a coal miner, and Catherine Darroch.

The marriage was registered on 13 February 1872 at Wishaw, Thomas Steele being the signing registrar. 1
