Thomas Curran, who was present where the birth occurred, gave notice of his daughter's birth before the registrar, William Spence, at Cleland on 4 May 1882, and made his X mark.

The 1901 census for Shotts parish recorded Ellan McConnachie living with her new husband at 49 Omoa Square in Cleland. Ellan was 18 years old, and had been born in Shotts parish.

Ellen McConnachie, née Curran, widow of Arthur McConnachie, coal miner, died in 1955 and was recorded as such in her death certificate. She was 73 years of age. Her parents were deceased. 2 5

Ellen married Arthur McCONNACHIE, son of Michael McCONAGHEY in Greenhill, (DNA Link) and Margaret CRANEY in Cornakinnegar, on 31 January 1901 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Arthur McCONNACHIE was born 26 September 1878 at 5.00 pm in Greenhill, Shotts Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 26 May 1950 at 1.50 am in Law Hospital, Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5 6.). The cause of his death was coronary thrombosis and hypostatic pneumonia, over 3 days.3


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Hugh Kelly. The witnesses were Joseph Duffy and Mary Dolan.

Arthur McConnachie was a coal miner by occupation. He was unmarried, aged 22 years, and lived at 22 Omoa Square, Cleland, in the West District of Shotts parish. His father was deceased.

Ellen Curran was 19 years old and single. No occupation was noted for her. She lived at 19 Omoa Square. Her father, too, was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Cleland on 2 February 1901, William McGill being the signing registrar. 1
