  General Notes:

James Clark was recorded by the 1841 census living with Margaret Gordon, James Gordon, and Isabella Gordon in New Street, Rothes, Morayshire. He was aged 4 years and had been born outside of Morayshire.

James Clark was 14 years old when recorded by the 1851 census for Rothes. He lived in the same household as in 1841: with his grandmother, her brother, and her niece Isabella. He was recorded as having been born in Aberlour, Bannfshire. He worked as a shoemaker's apprentice.

James Clark was living in Rothes in 1861 when the census of that year was taken. He was 24 years old, had been born in Aberlour, and was a journeyman shoemaker to trade. He was a married man. 3 4 5 6 7

  Research Notes:

PARENTS

William Clark and Mary Lawrence seem unlikely to be the parents of this James Clark because:

1 They married 1827, when William, father of this James, would have been in his eleventh year
2 This couple had a son John in 1830, unlikely to have been our William's son for same reason as 1
3 Both 1841 and 1851 census record this James as born in Aberlour, their James was baptised in Mortlach
4 This James was 4 years old and 14 years old in 1841 and 1851 census respecctively, making his birth year 1836 or 1837, not 1835 as with the other James.

  Medical Notes:

J.G.Clark who was present where his father's death occurred gave notice of the death of James on 24 February 1896 before the registrar at Inverness. 4

James married Isabella RHYNAS, daughter of Joseph RHYNAS Farmer and Jane MACKIE, on 16 February 1861 in Boharm parish, Banffshire, Scotland. (Isabella RHYNAS was born about 1838 in Boharm parish, Banffshire, Scotland 6 7 and died 11 June 1908 at 10.10 am in 78 Innes Street, Inverness, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was gangrene of toe over 1 month.4
