In 1862 the Poor Law records recorded that Mary Ann was 3 years old and a dependant of her mother.




Mary Ann was a scholar of 12 years of age when the 1871 census recorded her living in her mother's home. She had been born in Wishaw.




It may have been this Mary Hamil who was a witness at the marriage of James Hamill and Rose McAvoy in 1883.

Mary married George SHAW on 6 June 1884 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (George SHAW was born about 1859 in Drumcliffe, County Sligo, Ireland ³.)
