Bridget, who would have been 12 years old in 1851, was missing from the family entry of the 1851 census, and ten years later, from the 1861 census too.




Poor Law records recorded that Bridget, aged 22 years, was in America in 1862.




The 1880 US census for Manhattan, New York city recorded a woman called Bridgett Hammill, born in 1838 in Ireland, working as one of three domestic servants, in the home of Samuel Blatchford, a US Circuit Court judge. His wife, Carolina, and their adult son, also lived there. Bridgett's age was recorded as 42 years, and both of her parents recorded as Irish born.
