Margaret McConnachie was born in 1889. Her father, Henry, who was present where the birth occurred, gave notice of her birth before the registrar, William Spence, at Cleland, on 22 April 1889, and made his X mark.

In the 1891 census entry for her family, Margaret was youngest of three sisters living in no. 14 Spoutscroft, near Cleland, Lanarkshire.

In 1901 the census recorded Maggie McConnochie, aged 11 years, living with a group of her Vallely aunts and uncles at Windyedge, near Cleland, in Shotts Parish. Maggie was a scholar. She had been born in Shotts.

In 1911 Maggie was a witness at the marriage of her sister, Ellen.

Margaret married in 1922 when she was 33 years old. Her address was Ashfield Place, Biggar Road, Cleland. No occupation was given in the rubric of the certificate. ^{1 2 3 4}

Margaret married James KELLY on 15 November 1922 in Cleland, Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (James KELLY was born in 1885 in Shotts (Middle district) parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁵ and died on 22 March 1947 in 23 Omoa Road, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁶.). The cause of his death was cardio-vascular degeneration and chronic bronchitis.

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father Thomas Doyle, of St Mary's, Cleland, was the priest who married Margaret and James, neither of whom had been married before.

The witnesses were John Kelly, of Newtown Cottage in Cleland, probably a brother of the groom, and Annie McConnachie, the bride's sister, of Ashfield Place, Cleland.

John's parents were William Kelly, a retired coal miner, and Anne Dobbin. Both were living.

Alexander Craig, the registrar, registered the marriage details at Cleland on 18 November 1922. ^{1 7}
