   Cause of his death was burns from fire-damp explosion over 8 days.1

   Other names for Henry were KENNEY, Henry,3 KENNY, Henry 5 and McINNIE, Henry.2

  General Notes:

In 1851 Henry McInnie, his wife Ann and their two children, John and Sarah, were recorded by the census living in Back Street, Coathill, in Old Monkland parish, Lanarkshire. Henry was recorded as 30 years old and had been born in Ireland. He was an underground labourer. Two Irish born lodgers also lived in the household: John Docherty, 30 years of age, and Peter Gourlay. 25 years old. Both were underground labourers.

Henry Kinney, a redsman in a coalpit, died in 1855 as a result of a fire damp explosion in the pit where he worked. Henry Kinney was buried in Old Monkland Churchyard, as certified by the sexton, William Russell. Henry's death certificate recorded him as a man aged 38 years and born in County Armagh, Ireland. He was married to Ann McConnell [sic], and had been 9 years in Old Monkland parish. The couple had had five children, the eldest of whom had died in infancy. Henry's father was an agricultural labourer, and deceased. His mother Ann Fulloon was living.

The family of Bernard and Mary Kinney were recorded, two households' away from Henry's wife Ann and children in the 1861 census for Old Monkland, Rosehall village. This may be the brother who was the informant of Henry's death in 1855. 1 2 6

  Medical Notes:

Robert Young MD of Coatbridge saw the deceased on 17 April 1855 and certified the cause of his death.

Bernard Kinney, brother of the deceased, gave notice of the death before the registrar of Old Monkland parish on 18 April 1855 and made his X mark. 1


Henry married Ann McCONVILLE, daughter of John McCONVILLE and Sarah HAMMILL. (Ann McCONVILLE was born about 1823 in County Armagh, Ireland 2 4 and died 22 July 1892 at 6.30 am in 58 Kemback Street, Dundee, Scotland 3.). The cause of her death was malignant disease of the liver.1
