When John, his son, married in 1857, James was recorded in the marriage certificate as a labourer.

When his son John died in 1896, James was already deceased. He had been a gardener. ^{2 4}

James married Mary McGURK on 15 January 1824 in Dungannon parish, County Tyrone, Ireland.¹ (Mary McGURK was born about 1805 and died after 23 February 1857.)
