   Cause of his death was chronic bronchitis and gastric catarrh.

   Another name for Solomon was SEMPLE, Salmon.4

  General Notes:

The 1851 census for New Monkland has an entry recording 'Salmon Semple' his wife and two children. They were living at Clarkston near Airdrie. Salmon Semple was aged 38 years. His occupation is extremely unclear because of the the condition of the census page. It looks like colliery labourer. He was born in Ireland.

The marriage certificate of his daughter Mary Ann in 1861 recorded her father Solomon as a 'charr filler' by occupation.

The 1881 census recorded Solomon Semple and his household. This consisted of Solomon and his wife and two sons. They lived at 9 Thomson's Land, in the parish of New Monkland. Solomon was ecorded as 60 years of age and born in Ireland. His occupation was noted as general labourer.

When his son Alexander married in the 1880s Solomon was recorded in the marriage certificate as a labourer.

In his 1891 death certificate Solomon Semple was recorded as aged 78 years, a char-filler,and married to Elizabeth Walker. Both of his parents were deceased. 1 2 3 4 5

Mary Ann McKillop was the informant of Solomon's death. Her address was noted as Glengowan, Airdrie, She gave notice before the registrar, John E. Russell, at Airdrie on June 13 1891 and made her X mark. Her relation to the deceased was inscribed as 'niece'. 2


Solomon married Elizabeth WALKER, daughter of Alexander WALKER and Margaret ALLISON. (Elizabeth WALKER was born in 1823 in Ireland 3 4 6 and died 19 0ctober 1908 at 5.00 am in Hosneth Cottage, Caldercruix, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was general debility and disease of the stomach.
