The 1851 census for New Monkland has an entry recording 'Salmon Semple' his wife and two children. They were living at Clarkston near Airdrie. Salmon Semple was aged 38 years. His occupation is extremely unclear because of the the condition of the census page. It looks like colliery labourer. He was born in Ireland.
