On 7 July 1839 in St Margaret's Airdrie a 'Mary McKillop' was one of the sponsors at the baptism of James Clark, lawful son of William Clark and Ellen Cavanagh. The other sponsor was Patrick McLaughlin.

Mary was recorded as living with her family at 42 Bell Street Airdrie in the 1851 census. She was aged 26 years and worked as a factory weaver. She was unmarried and had been born in Scotland. ^{2 3}
