The 1900 US Census for Clifton, Oregon, recorded Walter Quigley aged 4 years, living with his his parents, A. J. and Lidie A. Quigley. as boarders in the household of James Copeland. Walter's birth was dated as September 1894, and his place of birth was Oregon. His father's birth place was Washington and his mother's Iowa.
In 1910 the US census for Portland Ward 7, Multnomah, Oregon recorded Walter J. Quigley residing at the home of James and Lizbeth Kelly as a nephew. Lizbeth Kelly was Elizabeth Quigley, born in Scotland in 1856, the sister of the young man's father Arthur. Walter was recorded as 15 years old and born in Oregon.
In 1920 John W. Quigley was a switchman in a navy yard in Boston Ward 13, Suffolk, Massachusetts, according to the US census in January of that year. He lived in Cliff Street with his wife and baby son, as well as his mother in law and a lodger Winifred Fuller. His age was recorded as 24 years and his birthplace as Oregon. Both of his parents were recorded as Irish born - this appears to be inaccurate, though he was of Irish ancestry.
The 1930 census recorded John W. Quigley living in Central Avenue of O'Neal Township in San Joaquin, California, with his wife Jane and their five children: Kenneth John, Arthur, Pat and David. John was a homeowner in a property worth $2900. His age at his last birthday was 35 years and he had married aged 23 years, according to this census. John had been born in Oregon State, as had his father. His mother had been born in Iowa. John worked as a forman in a water company.
The 1940 US Census recorded a John Quigley living with his wife Jane and their sons John junior, Pat, David and George in Ohio Street, Vallejo, Solano, California. John was 45 years old and had been born in Oregon. The family lived in a rented property. John was a crane driver, a "Wage or salary worker in Government work". He had completed College, 3rd year. In 1935 he had been living in Stockton, California.

WALTER QUIGLEY
There are two men named Walter Quigley of the same ancestral family, who may be easily confused. The common ancestors of both were John Quigly, born Ireland in the 1790s and his wife Catherine Lynas, born in Scotland in 1798.
One Walter Quigley was the grandson of John Quigly's son Arthur and his wife James Thomson. The other was the grandson of John Quigly's son James and his wife Jean Millar.
The two Walters were born about the same time, but in two different parts of Washington State USA.
The Walter Quigley who was the grandson of Arthur Quigley and Jane Thomson sometimes gives 1 May 1894 as his birthday, sometimes 1 May 1895, and he was born in Kelso in Cowlitz, County in the state of Washington USA. His parents were Arthur Quigley and Adda, or Alta, Jervey.
The Walter who was the grandson of James Quigley and Jean Millar was born in September 1894 in Columbia County. His parents were Arthur Quigley and Lydia Barnes, married in 1888.
