  General Notes:

In 1855 Edward's daughter Annie was born in Wallacetown, Ayrshire. Her 1855 birth certificate provided additional information about her parents. her father Edward was the informant. He was a general labourer aged 25 years old, and had been born in County Wexford Ireland. He and his wife Sarah had married in January 1855 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

The 1861 census recorded the Murray family living at the household of John Feaily, aged 84, in Carluke, Lanarkshire. Edward Murray was John's son in law, married to his daughter Sarah and father of John's grandchildren John and Annie. Edward was a labourer aged 40 who had been born in Ireland.

Edward Murray died in 1865 and his death certificate recorded him as a labourer and married. His age was recorded as 40 years.

In his widow's death certificate of 1899 Edward Murray was recorded as ' ---- Murray carter'. 1 2 3 6

William Naismith MD of Hamilton certified the cause of death.

The informant was John Chalmers, a neighbour. He gave notice of Edward Murray's death before the registrar, William Moffat, at Hamilton on October 18 1865 and made his X mark. 3


Edward married Sarah FEELY, daughter of James FEELY and Susan KEENAN, in January 1855 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Sarah FEELY was born in 1833 in County Armagh, Ireland 1 2 7, baptised on 15 November 1833 in Shankill RC parish, County Armagh, Ireland 8 and died on 17 May 1899 in 35 New Camp, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland 9.). The cause of her death was bronchitis - duration uncertain - and asthenia.


  Marriage Notes:

No marriage for this couple has been found in Scotland. The date and place of January 1855 in Hamilton was recorded in the baptism of Annie Murray, the couple's first child. 1
